Types of Dentures

Depending on how many teeth you’re missing, you can either get partial dentures or full dentures. If you need to replace an entire arch or a full mouth of teeth, you’ll want complete dentures designed to fit snuggly over your gums.

Partial dentures are for those who are missing a few teeth and need something to fill in those spaces. They’re made of replacement teeth connected to a metal framework to hold the denture in place. Partial dentures are similar to dental bridges.

What to Expect

It may take a while before you get used to wearing dentures, and that’s normal! Many patients need a little practice before they can properly eat and speak with the dentures in their mouths. Sometimes, people mention a loose or bulky feeling, which is only the cheeks and tongue learning how to hold the dentures in place.

You will experience an excessive saliva flow from the feeling that your tongue doesn’t have enough room. Some people may also experience minor irritation or soreness. If it becomes an issue, call us immediately!

Caring for Your Dentures

You’ll want to learn how to properly care for your dentures so they can last a while and ensure your mouth remains healthy. They should last several years with adequate care, but you’ll need to have them relined or remade because of normal wear and tear and as your mouth changes.

Below are some tips on how to care for your dentures:

  • Be careful not to drop them
  • Brush and rinse your dentures daily
  • Soak them daily in a denture-cleaning solution
  • Never soak them in hot water
  • Brush your gums and tongue before inserting them
